In the year 2000 I went to a well known eye hospital in Petaling Jaya to do a cataract surgery on my right eye. Four years later the vision in this eye began to fade.
I went back to the surgeon who did the surgery. She told me that there was a foreign object at the back of my eye blocking my vision, and would require an operation to remove it.
I went for a second opinion at another eye hospital. The doctor told me that during the cataract surgery of my right eye, the surgeon who did the operation neglected to clean out some dead cells trapped between the lens and the retina. Over the years the dead cells had liquefied and developed into a sac of milky substance blocking my vision. The doctor offered me two options to rectify the problem: by laser surgery, or by direct surgery. He mentioned that both options were high risk. If I could live with my condition there’s no need for surgery. I felt devastated such a situation could have happened to me. I decided not to go for any surgery but to wait on the Lord for divine healing.
So I prayed often and had faith that the Lord would heal my eye. Over the years I consistently responded to altar calls for healing. I trusted the Lord to bring about healing according to His timing. I prayed that He would either heal me miraculously or lead me to a doctor who would restore vision to me.
The condition in my right eye deteriorated till I was practically blind in this eye. Because I was short-sighted in my left eye my overall vision was badly affected. For safety reason I stopped driving at night. Even during broad daylight I couldn’t read road signs and often lost my way. I couldn’t recognize anyone till he was close by. During worship time at our Sunday service and prayer meeting I couldn’t read the lyrics on the screen.
On 3/6/2009 I consulted another eye specialist. The doctor examined my eye and told me to follow him to another room. On examining my eye again he kept saying “very strange, very strange” – fearful words to my wife who was with me, expecting the worst. He then took out an instrument, shined blinding light into my eyes, warning me sternly not to move. It was over in fifteen minutes. When we were back to the consultation room the doctor asked me whether I could see better. I felt that my vision was the same as before. I asked him whether I require surgery. No need he said, he had just done a laser surgery to dislodge the obstacle that blocked my vision. When I was out of the doctor’s room feeling rather skeptical I suddenly realized that the whole office outside was so bright. When I covered my left eye I could see very clearly with my right eye!
God had indeed answered my prayer. He directed me to the doctor who would restore my vision. This doctor did not even follow the normal convention of advising his patient that he was about to do a laser surgery. Had he done so I would have been fearful having been advised earlier that in my case laser surgery was high risk. The bill for the treatment was affordable and happened to be the same amount of money I had with me. God is good!
My right eye is whole again. With corrective glasses to balance the vision of both eyes I can see clearly now. After having suffered poor vision for so many years I often rejoice that I can see clearly again.
Praise the Lord!
