Last weekend was special for me and Swee Leng as we witnessed our twins’ graduation at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang. Although the Sultan of Selangor, who was Chancellor was there to present the certificates, this was not the special thing.
The special thing was there is a God who is still on the throne. 25 years ago, when I was considering full-time Christian ministry at the age of 32, our concern was the funding of the education of our children. We did not have much, growing up in poor families and just coming out of economic recession. Vacancies at public universities were very few and competitive and private university education was expensive. When we finally decided to serve the Lord full-time and relocated to Seremban, we accepted that we could not afford an overseas education for our girls and they had to study hard in order to make it. At the time, we were assured by the Lord that He will take care of us when we serve Him. This quote helped us, “You take care of God’s house, and He will take care of yours.”
Four years ago, our eldest daughter Vivienne graduated from Sunway College after completing her ACCA accountancy examinations. She has since resigned from her job as a tax consultant and is now pastoring our outreach church in Seremban.
Last weekend, both our twin girls graduated with first class honours, Rachelle in Computer Science and Rosanne in Education (teaching English as a second language.) Rachelle will commence work with a firm of management consultants in a fortnight’s time, and Rosanne will start the teaching year in Jan 2015 with a private school in the Klang valley.
In the midst of the euphoria and picture-taking, the Holy Spirit reminded me, “You take care of God’s house, and He will take care of yours.”
